Meghan Newman

Owner, Studio Director, Instructor: Contemporary, Musical Theater, Jazz, Strength + Flexibility, Improv, and Company Choreographer

Meghan Newman is the Director and Owner of Elevate Dance Academy. She teaches and choreographs in a variety of styles, and she leads a staff of highly trained dance instructors to provide the best possible studio experience for each and every dancer.

Meghan grew up in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina where she trained at the Asheville Center of Performing Arts and was a company member of Asheville City Ballet, Asheville Jazzworks, and Asheville Tap Co. She performed at the Winston Salem Festival of Ballet at UNSCA in numerous works. Meghan then went on to attain her BFA in Dance Choreography and Performance, with a minor in film studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she performed in works by Janet Lily, Duane Cyrus, and many others. 

Meghan has been teaching and choreographing around the country for 12 years. She began her teaching journey in high school and has not stopped since. Meghan has taught in many pre-professional/competitive studios, as a guest artist in public middle and high schools where she has choreographed full-length musicals for the performing arts departments, as well as many pieces and productions that were set on the school's dance departments. She has also taught on the collegiate level at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she taught in a quarter-long residency and set works on their dance department. Her choreography has won numerous awards in the competition dance circuit, receiving many Industry Dance Award nominations as well as choreography awards.

Meghan also has a background in fitness and is well versed in Pilates and Barre technique. She focuses on training dancers through a strong, technical emphasis paired with innovative, artistic creativity. Sharing her love of dance with others is her biggest passion. She believes a positive, communication-based environment is extremely important in creating a nurtured dancer, and she is always looking to challenge herself in both her teaching practices and choreography to ensure she creates a thriving environment for all her students.
